Rin Mizumoto is a Lighting Designer from Tokyo, Japan. She is passionate about working globally with people from diverse backgrounds while creating unforgettable experiences for a broad audience.  

​

Rin graduated from Chapman University in 2020 with a B.A. in Theatre Technology and a minor in Entrepreneurship. While at Chapman, she had the opportunity to explore many facets of live entertainment and participated in over 45 productions as a Lighting Designer, Assistant Lighting Designer, Programmer, Master Electrician, and Technician. 

 

Since graduating, Rin has worked in both Japan and the United States. In Japan, she was the Technical Coordinator/Interpreter for Cirque du Soleil’s touring production, Alegría: In A New Light, with Fuji Television. In Southern California, she has worked with organizations such as Stories Illuminated Entertainment and Insomniac Events, to name a few.

Rin is currently pursuing an MFA in Lighting Design at the University of California, Irvine. She aims to broaden her competencies through rigorous training and develop her design style that reflects a fusion of two cultures

using her experience working in the Japanese and American entertainment industries.

Technical Coordinator/Interpreter at Fuji Television (Winter - Summer 2022)

  • Preparation for Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegría: In A New Light” Japan tour 

  • Communicated technical and artistic ideas between Cirque and Fuji Television

    • Interpreting for meetings

    • Translating documents regarding site/tent/stage/seat designs, technical elements, fire safety, and logistics

  • Coordinated with Japanese business partners consisting of 20+ companies preparing infrastructure

AV Crew at Insomniac Events (Winter - Spring 2021)

  • Operated a DANTE networked audio system involving 100+ speakers throughout a drive-thru festival, Electric Mile

  • Managed startup and shutdown procedures for the audio/lighting playback system that is networked through 10 computers and multiple control systems across the venue 

  • Set up and operated two large video walls

Video Editor at Rise OC Church (Winter - Summer 2021)

  • Post-production work for the virtual worship services

Holiday Lighting Technician at Light N Up, Inc. (Winter 2020)

  • Installed various lighting fixtures at more than 300 sites throughout the Orange County area

 

Technical Intern at Musco Center for the Arts (Fall 2019)

  • Trained by department leads in production management, audio/video, lighting, and rigging 

  • Operated follow spot under Robert Juliet Topaze, called 50+ spot cues, and live busked lights for touring concerts on an ETC Gio

 

Lighting Intern at Upstaging, Inc. (Summer 2019)

  • Loaded in/out, programmed, and operated a HedgeHog 4 for a local band on a mobile stage

  • Assisted the crew chief with preparation for national/international touring shows by building truss,        

       hanging/cabling/testing lights, looming cables, and organizing lighting equipment â€‹ 

 

Lighting Intern at Fuji Media Technology, Inc. (Winter 2018)

  • Assigned to various TV shows, newscasts, and studio concerts

  • Loaded in, set up, focused, and struck specialized TV lighting equipment

  • Translated Japanese and English for international VIPs 

 

Resident Lighting Designer/Technician at OC Jewish Events Center (Spring 2017 - Summer 2021)

  • Maintained a fixture inventory of theatrical intelligent/conventional lighting and video equipment in a multipurpose venue

  • Designed and ran a variety of events including concerts, musicals, talking head events, and private rentals

 

Master Electrician at Chapman University (Fall 2016 - Spring 2020)

  • Managed load in/out of light fixtures, both intelligent and conventional

  • Coordinated between show designers and production management to implement design ideas by interpreting plots, hanging/focusing, and maintaining the integrity of the designers' visions during the show run
